Ayers Automotive
This page is a collection of various posts I have made about Ayers Automotive of Santa Barbara, and the unprofessional and incompetent service I received from them on several occasions. Links to the five original posts are below, with a brief explanation of each. Some of the posts have comments from others who have had bad experiences with Ayers as well.
Part I, in which I discover that the brand new license plate holder on my Miata has mysteriously been replaced several days after first taking it to Ayers Automotive.
Part II, in which the mysterious disappearance of the license plate holder is resolved. It takes several weeks for them to replace it with a similar one, but I get a free oil change for my trouble.
Part III, in which, in the process of buying a new car (a Rav4), Ayers keeps it for several days just to do a smog check, and then submits the smog check for the wrong car (the Miata).
The Epilogue (which I thought was the end), in which I discover a few days after the lengthy smog check prcoess that my gas cap was not replaced. I resolve never to go to Ayers again.
And finally, Part IV: Ayers Revenge, in which, months later, when trying to sell the Miata, I learn that there’s a milage discrepancy in the Miata’s Carfax report. When Ayers submitted the smog data for the wrong car, it went on the Carfax report, and they never bothered to correct it. When I called Ayers with this issue, the owner first tried to tell me that they never made a mistake, then tried to argue with me about whether it was important, then told me that he didn’t submit anything to Carfax, and that he couldn’t fix it anyway. The owner was very confrontational and completely uninterested in helping to fix the mistake he made. He told me that the process to resolve it was out of his control. I ended up submitting documentation of the error to Carfax myself and it was cleared up in about a week.
